Tanzania Agricultural Development Bank (TADB) is proud to announce its role as the main sponsor of the upcoming TCCS Livestock Show and Auction to be held from 14th to 16th June 2024 in Ubena Zomozi, Chalinze
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – 5th June, 2024 – The Tanzania Agricultural Development Bank (TADB) is proud to announce its role as the main sponsor of the upcoming TCCS Livestock Show and Auction to be held from 14th to 16th June 2024 in Ubena Zomozi, Chalinze. Following the successful TCCS Show in 2022, TADB found it fitting to again sponsor this year’s show. This prestigious event, organized by the Tanzania Commercial Cattle Society (TCCS), provides a vital platform for showcasing the country's vibrant livestock sector and fostering its continued growth.
TADB's commitment to sponsoring the TCCS Livestock Show and Auction 2024 underscores its unwavering dedication to supporting Tanzania's livestock sector, with a particular focus on the dairy, poultry and beef industries.
“Livestock keepers are without doubt contributors to the economic livelihood of many Tanzanians. Close collaboration with TCCS helps TADB understand how to intervene in the livestock sector to enhance its activities in a more constructive manner. The auction will provide a platform to sell their top-quality breeding stock to a wider audience of potential buyers, potentially fetching premium prices. The show offers opportunities to connect with other farmers, industry professionals, and potential business partners. This allows them to share knowledge, best practices, and explore potential collaborations” detailed Mr. Waziri Mkani, Ag. Director of Planning, Research and Corporate Affairs.
TADB has played a pivotal role in empowering Dairy Farmers, Boosting the Poultry Industry and Transforming the Beef Sector. TADB has implemented various initiatives to empower dairy farmers across Tanzania. These initiatives include providing financial resources for improved breeding stock, modern milking equipment and processing facilities, modern ranching infrastructure and establish efficient marketing channels. TADB is helping to ensure a sustainable and profitable livestock industry.
“Our focus at TADB is to ensure we uplift and improve the livestock sector to promote markets and increase international competitiveness. We have implemented various strategies to reach livestock keepers across the country directly and through Partner Financial Institutions (PFIs) under the Smallholder Credit Guarantee Scheme (SCGS). We do all this to ensure we support the government's efforts through the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, which has identified opportunities in the livestock sector and decided to increase the budget from TZS 295.9 billion in 2023/2024 to TZS 460.3 billion in 2024/2025, representing a 55% increase.
Through the Smallholder Credit Guarantee Scheme (SCGS), TADB has guaranteed a total of TZS 15.7 billion in loans through 9 out of 17 PFIs, reaching 347 beneficiaries. TZS 38 billion reaching 8,688 livestock keepers was disbursed as direct loans to livestock keepers in the Dairy and Meat sub-sectors, including cattle, goats, and sheeps. As the sector grows, we grow with it," added the Ag. Director of Planning, Advisory and Corporate Affairs.
The livestock sector in Tanzania contributed 6.7% to the national income, which is a 5% increase for the period 2023/2024. Through the sale of meat to foreign countries, especially the UAE and Dubai, this sector earned the nation a total of $56.6 million in 2023/2024, an increase of 9.06% from 2022/2023 when it was $51.9 million. Tanzania produces approximately 900,000 tonnes per year and exports only 13,000 tonnes
During the TCCS Livestock Show and Auction, TADB will have a dedicated booth to engage with stakeholders, showcasing financing solutions tailored for the livestock sector, and share success stories from beneficiaries. TADB representatives will be available to answer questions and provide insights into how the bank is supporting the growth and development of Tanzania's livestock industry.
