Members of the IPU Executive Committee concluded their 300th session in Geneva, Switzerland, on 29-30 June 2026, under the leadership of Dr. Tulia Ackson, President of the IPU.

The constitutional session coincided with International Day of Parliamentarism on 30 June, the date the IPU was founded.

On the agenda, the Committee discussed preparations for the 153rd IPU Assembly to be held in October in Arusha, Tanzania, as well as the election of a new President to succeed Dr. Ackson.

The session also witnessed the official handover of the Secretary General’s office. Mr. Martin Chungong handed over the “keys” of leadership to Ambassador Anda Filip, following her election in April in Istanbul. Ambassador Filip formally assumed office on 1 July 2026.

She is the 10th Secretary General, the first woman, and the first person from Eastern Europe to lead the IPU Secretariat for a four-year term.

The Parliament of Tanzania congratulated Ambassador Filip and pledged to continue strengthening cooperation with the IPU.
